computer, software, wireless, technical, hardware
I have searched long and hard for something I would enjoy sharing with others. I started researching Site Build It back in April 2009. I saw a video on You Tube by a person that was using it with great success. Of course my first thought was to run for cover because I have been scammed in the past. I never thought I could use my technical skills to educate other people. So I figured what did I have to lose besides time? My journey began with the naming of my site. I choose the site name because I believe I have the magic touch that provides results.
The site name describes the type of service I offer. I started troubleshooting before I knew what I was doing while working at the local hospital in my hometown. My supervisor would always send me to troubleshoot the PC’s. Of course, at the time I never did ask why she was sending me to troubleshoot the computers. However, each time she'd send me to troubleshoot an issue, I would always get the computer back up and running. I have to let you guys in on a little secret; I didn’t know the first thing about troubleshooting a PC, I had no idea what I was doing.
But for some strange reason - I always massage to get the job done! Either my supervisor had enough confidence in me or she wanted to see me fail so she would have an excuse to get rid of me. The computers I was troubleshooting were the old IBM’s. You know the ones with the black background and orange font colors. There was no access to the internet, nor any software applications. In today’s technical age, PC’s are filling with more and more software applications.
They have applications like PDF readers, auto cad, word, excel, access, power point, and gaming software, that’s just to name a few. On the old IBM models there was a help feature, with very little help. The problem with the old IBM computers, they lacked memory and storage space. I figured why should I limit the knowledge I gained by accident? So, I started looking into enrolling in classes with Kaplan University Online. If I wanted to showcase what I had learned by accident, I needed to get the proper training.
I discovered my real passion for computers in 1998. I didn’t start my online classes until 2005. During that time frame I purchase my first PC through Gateway.com. The PC came with Windows 98 operating system one CD drive, and a floppy disk drive. I successfully upgrade the hardware, without prior experience to a bigger hard drive. I was so proud of myself, with little research and very little knowledge; I was able to add more storage space to my computer.
Of course with a bigger hard drive, I had more space but my PC was still running slow, which meant I had to add more memory. Once I added the hard drive, I thought my computer would be fine with no future problems. Its good practice to remember that there is always more to learn, technology is changing everyday and businesses are advancing to the new technical age. That’s why I don’t consider myself an expert. I’m just someone who knows her way around the PC. I completed my bachelor’s degree program in September 2008. Of course the job I’m currently working is not in my degree field, but it pays the bills.
However, I did place an ad in the local newspaper for my technical services. I placed my ad the first week in June 2009, and it ran for 28 days. I only charged $15.00 per hour. I know a lot of you are saying to yourself, why did you charge so little? Well first off, I didn’t have any prior work experience related to computers. Beside the personal experience on my own, they can’t check references that way.
You will be surprised how many people want references from past jobs you’ve work on. I spent $74.50 to run the ad for 28 days; I made a total of $322.00 dollars during that time frame. I got my money back and then some, which is something I never expected. You see; I knew I could fix just about any computer problems. But there's always that bit of doubt I have in myself.
